This panel discussion, moderated by Goldsmiths sociologist Lara Houston, addresses system change and the emerging challenges we face. Touching on the ‘right to repair’, copyright, the growing internet of things and software obsolescence, this is our time to think big. Kyle Wiens is the co-founder and CEO of iFixit: a wiki-based site and repair community that teaches people to fix almost anything. From its origins in a Cal Poly dorm room in 2003, iFixit has become an international movement. Alison Powell is Assistant Professor and Programme Director of the MSc in Media and Communication (Data & Society) at LSE. Her research has spanned many aspects of the ways in which our values influence the ways technologies are built, and how technologies in turn affect the ways we interact with the world and with each other.
