We renovated a $47,000 house in a short sale real estate deal back in 2009, and later flipped it for $85,000.
If you're thinking about buying a cheap house, I'm sharing our experience of the process and offering some advice and reality about all that's involved.

Our goal was to find the cheapest property we could in a relatively safe neighborhood. This turned out to be a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom short sale for $47,900 in Florida. The 794 square foot bungalow-style house was built in the 1950s, and was only one block away from Tampa Bay.
My husband, James, did 95% of the work himself rather than hiring it out. There is a LOT of responsibility and costs that come with home ownership, so please go into it with your eyes wide open.
