99년만의 개기일식, 미 대륙 관통
Millions of people in America headed out on Monday to see the first total solar eclipse to cross the entire mainland United States in 99 years.
Even President Trump was seen looking up at the sky with a pair of special glasses.
Park Jiwon has this report.
Suddenly, darkness comes in the middle of the day,... and the temperature drops.
Animals go quiet,... and people are left feeling awe and amazement.
It is one of the most spectacular celestial wonders we can witness.
Millions of Americans watched the sun obscured by the moon.
"I think it's a once in a lifetime experience. I don't think many people get to say that they got a total eclipse on their birthday. So I think I feel pretty special because of it."
"I wanted the sky to be clear but when I woke up and it was cloudy I was nervous like I'm not gonna see it. But it worked out so perfectly. We could see everything with our glasses. Like it was amazing. Everybody was just looking up."
The path of totality passed through 14 U.S. states,... from Oregon and Wyoming in the west ,... to South Carolina in the east. Parts of these states witnessed a total eclipse,... where the moon completely blocks the sun, leaving only the sun's corona visible.
The rest of North America, including President Trump, who was watching from the White House, enjoyed a partial eclipse.
This was the first total solar eclipse that traveled from coast to coast in the U.S. in nearly a century.
