The forecast for the day ahead was going to be a wet morning so we stayed at Acton Bridge from 8.30 to 12.40 then decided to call it a day and head on home. Knowing that the M6 is undergoing major roadworks for 18 miles, thought we'd set off early and if time call in to Stafford. Thankfully a local resident/enthusiast casually mentioned "why don't you go to Crewe and go on the A road and miss all the roadworks!"......great idea, so change of plan.
We got to Crewe, a quick dash onto the station to get the thunderbird 57 and then round to Gresty Bridge (totally forgot to video but took photos!) and then up the road to Basford Hall and on parking up could see the green Freightliner 47, 47830 down the far end of the yard. So, a nice long walk across the field to go and get this then walk back up along side the yard to see the withdrawn 47s 811 and 816 and get whatever else was on shed. Another 1st for me and a chance to see the new Freightliner depot...very modern and nice indeed, before finally setting off for home.
A special thanks to my colleague Steve C for joining me. A great few days away. Should have been 5 days from Fri - Tue but unforseen circumstances changed that and we went from Mon - Wed.
That'll most probably be it on the real railways for a while apart from the Bridgwater flask if it runs on a Wednesday and now back to the modelling side of the hobby.
