The Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is a perfect example of an African-Chinese crossover. Five out of six steel works in Kenya are suppliers for the railway. For three of them, the SGR is their biggest client. It not only promotes Chinese technology and standards, but boosts related industries in Kenya. More local sub-contractors and suppliers will be involved in the operation, and witness a win-win cooperation between Kenyan and Chinese corporations. The SGR is only one part of the East African Railway Master Plan. Once the line in Kenya is commissioned, standard gauge railways will be built in countries like Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan.
