Do I Need An X-Ray For An Ankle Sprain?

Ottowa ankle rules are used to screen if you need to get an X-Ray after an ankle sprain. Firmly palpate: 1) Medial malleolus and 6 cm up the tibia 2) Lateral malleolus and 6cm up the fibula 3) Navicular 4) Base of 5th Metatarsal If any of these areas are tender and/or you can't take 4 steps (remember limping is ok) -- go and get an X-Ray to rule in/out a fracture. This doesn't necessarily mean you have a fracture - just that you should get an X-Ray! Comment below if you have any questions!
