A woman travels from Michigan to Arkansas for an opinion on her chronically locked jaw. She's been stuck at 2 finger widths for many months and nothing has helped her, including splints, botox and physical therapy. Dr. Nick runs her through his Neural Occlusion screening protocols, and finds that DTR therapy may actually help her, to a degree... She obviously has many other layers to her issues, but because of the fact that her TMJ disk medial poles are both relatively stable and adapted per MRI imaging, she may actually find some help from the implementation of DTR therapy. NOTE: typically a closed lock is not able to be successfully addressed via DTR therapy. Her case is unique in that the medial poles on both of her TMJ's were objectively found to be stable and adapted per MRI and CBCT imaging. The DTR therapy did nothing to address the orthopedic damage within her joints. Theoretically though, it reduced the muscular spasm component of the problem. Her displaced lateral poles of her disk will not migrate back atop of her condylar head, with DTR or with any other treatment for that matter short of TMJ disk surgery. That sort of thinking is dogma. MRI imaging tells the few of us that do it that this is so... This is why the Neural Occlusion screening protocols were created! It's usefulness applies to not only DTR therapy, but to TMD diagnosis in general. Because after all: Measured Matters!
