「Learn Japanese」 X限り (かぎり),Y as “as long as X, Y” 限り (かぎり) is a word that is a part of a number of grammar patterns with a number of different meanings, one of which being “as long as X, then Y.” What this grammatical construction denotes is that “as long as” X is true, then Y is also to be true. In this form, 限り (かぎり) can broadly be used with VERB words, NOUN words, as well as ADJECTIVE words (though its usage with ADJECTIVE words is actually rather limited). As with many other grammar patterns, the usage of 限り (かぎり) demands that it be used with the Plain Form of the word preceding it. For NOUN and な-ADJECTIVE words in particular, this means the coupling of the phrasing である or な or でない right after the respective word and right before 限り (かぎり). Example(s): この試験に受かるかぎり、卒業出来る。 Kono shiken ni ukaru kagiri, sotsugyou dekiru. (“As long as I pass this test, I can graduate in time.”) 元気である限り、テニスし続けたいと思う。 Genki de aru kagiri, tenis shitsuduketai to omou. (“I want to continue playing tennis as long as I’m still healthy.”) とんでもない事件が起こらない限り、授業に間に合う。 Tondemonai jiken ga okoranai kagiri, jyugyou ni maniau. (“So long as some unbelievable accident doesn’t end up happening, we’ll make it in time for class.”) このチームの一部であるかぎり、練習に行かなくてはいけません。 Kono team no ichibu de aru kagiri, renshuu ni ikanakute wa ikemasen. (“As long as you’re a part of this team, you have to show up to practice.”) ✧¸¸.•*¨*• •*¨*•.¸¸✧ Interested in learning Japanese by watching anime?
