PERSONAL TIPS on How to do a Dive Roll (Judo Roll):
1 - Take it slow! Every move that you want to learn, you can learn at your own pace. You are still pushing yourself, just to do it safely and correctly.
2 - Practice jumping and landing on your feet, as quiet as you can! Like a ninja.. then do it from a run. Learn your gather step, this will give you the control you need to have in the air when doing the dive roll.
3 - Push the ground away with your hands once you make contact! That will slow down your momentum, and make the roll easier.
4 - It helps to pretend you're going over something when you do it. (Once you're comfortable, do try going over something onto some soft grass)
5 - Make your roll count! Keep your body hollow, and try not to flop on the ground.
The Parkour Dive roll was one of the first aerial movements I learned in Judo, which I then transferred to Freerunning. We used to see how many people we could jump over (for distance). It's a fun move, but I don't like to do it too many times in a row, as it does take a toll! Hopefully you enjoyed this dive roll tutorial!
