Ivy was the cutest girl in school, as she had the chubbiest cheeks anyone had ever seen.She was short, plump and chubby. Nonetheless, she always wished for a figure like those girls in the magazines. Her family and friends loved her. They always tried to get her to lose weight but she just wouldn’t listen. She preferred dieting and skipping meals rather than working out and exercising. It was her best friend Ava’s birthday. Ivy decided to show up early to help her decorate for the party.Everything was going fine till Ava’s brother, Derrick, came. He was notorious for being brash and rude. He took a balloon and laughed in Ivy’s face, “Do you know what’s the difference between this balloon and you? I can burst the balloon with a pin but I can’t burst your tummy! Ha ha ha!!!
Ivy felt embarrassed and rushed home with tears in her eyes.Ivy shut out her room and kept crying. Something got into her and she decided to prick her tummy with a nail. Just as she was about to do it, her sister, Sophie, entered. “What are you doing? Are you out of your mind? You’ll hurt yourself,” she yelled and snatched the pin from Ivy’s hand.
IVY: I’m fat. I just want to get rid of this bulge. Derrick was right. I’m worse than a balloon. I too want to be like other girls.
Ivy told Sophie everything that happened at Ava’s house.
