Joseph MacAnthony describes the travelling community as “a people apart” who are “living on the fringes of our society”. The programme includes interviews with travellers who talk about the changes in their way of life and the work they do, from collecting tin and trading horses, to seasonal agricultural work. Henry Maxwell, a north county Dublin farmer, talks about employing travellers to do agricultural work on a piece-work basis. This episode of ‘Horizon’ was broadcast on 12 December, 1969 in connection with Itinerant Settlement Week.
