(5 Jun 2014) CMT AWARDS MIX UP R&B AND COUNTRY The CMT Music Awards were a little bit country and a little bit R&B with mash-ups between John Legend, Jennifer Nettles, Jason Derulo, Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line. The awards show that aired on Wednesday from Nashville, Tennessee, kicked off with a trio of some of music's biggest stars, who came up with the idea to collaborate at the Billboard Music Awards. The show started with a mash-up of Derulo's hit, "Talk Dirty" with Florida Georgia Line's "This Is How We Roll," with Luke Bryan. "Jason's one of the most talented guys we've seen," said Tyler Hubbard, from the duo Florida Georgia Line. "He can dance, sing. Super cool, laid back guy, just awesome to work with. It's a new relationship with us and we're just enjoying it. Having a good time with it. He did an amazing job with the remix, so we're excited about it." Luke Bryan said the difficulty was making sure all four of the artists on stage were in sync during the performance. "FGL has their moment, I have my little moment, Jason has his little moment and then we have all our moments together so you just want to make sure they all work right. And it doesn't look like a cat herding up there or anything." Then John Legend paired up with Jennifer Nettles and Hunter Hayes to do a new arrangement of his hit song, "All Of Me." "It's a completely different arrangement," Legend said. "No piano, it's all guitar based, string based. And I wanted it to really feel like it fit here on the CMT Awards. I think Hunter was the perfect person to produce it. And Jennifer is the perfect person for me to sing it with." Derulo was optimistic his remixed version of "This Is How We Roll," could be as successful as Nelly's remix of another FGL song, "Cruise." "If the fans love it half as much as I do, I think we're in good shape," Derulo said. " I can't stop playing the thing. It's really cool. It was a hit song before I got on it so we just made it more pop-ified. It's a little more rhythmic and has a little swag with the drums and everything. So I think people will dig it."
