(12 Nov 2013) Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Vietnam on Tuesday for talks with the country's leaders aimed at boosting relations between the two nations.
Putin landed in Noi Bai international airport in Hanoi and was scheduled to attend an official welcoming ceremony, followed by a meeting with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang at the Presidential Palace.
He will also meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and the Communist Party Chief Nguyen Phu Trong later on Tuesday.
It is the third time Putin has visited Vietnam as president.
Vietnam is the second Asian country, after China, that Putin has visited in his current term.
He is expected to hold talks detailing greater cooperation in military, nuclear power, and oil and gas exploration.
Last week, Russia handed over the first of six 636 Kilo-class submarines under a contract with Vietnam's Navy.
The rest of the order will be delivered in the next three years.
A discussion on the negotiation of a Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Customs Union Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia will also be included in the agenda.
Putin is scheduled to depart Vietnam on Tuesday evening.
