Amiibo are not only collectible figures resembling the trophies from the Super Smash Bros. series, they also have a computer chip in their base which allows them to be scanned over the Near Field Communication (NFC) part of the Wii U Gamepad to interact with Nintendo Wii U games, or the bottom screen on the New Nintendo 3DS for 3DS games.
