Commanders of the defeated Kurdish faction, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), were among the refugees who fled to the Iranian border on Wednesday (11/9) after the advancing KDP overran and burned out their headquarters at Qarachitan, 30 km from Sulaymaniyah in northern Iraq. Jalal Talabani, leader of the conquered Kurdish group, was believed to have crossed into Iran with some of his commanders.
