This is Windows 95 running on an unbelivably old (and loud) hard disk drive using the MFM interface that has 160 MB, 5.25 inch full size form factor and was introduced in 1983. CPU is an Intel i386 DX-33 Engineering Sample, RAM is 8 MB. In this video I'm showing the boot process, a basic disk benchmark, the shutdown, low level format with DOS, and installing Windows 3.11. The Maxtor XT-2000 including the XT-2085, the XT-2140 and the XT-2190 being the largest hard drive available in this family, succeeding the Maxtor XT-1000 is a rather late produced and advanced low cost MFM hard drive featuring a modern voice coil actuator which technology is still present in modern HDDs today. The voice coil actuator ensures a faster access time compared to the at least equally interesting and beautiful stepper motor. The XT-2190 seems to be one of the largest available MFM hard drives. Having a capacity of 190 megabytes (191.14) unformatted and around 150 megabytes, this hard drive requires to be configured as drive type 47 (user defined), significantly bigger than other common MFM hard drives. Its successor, XT-3000 was already utilizing the SCSI interface. http://cpumuseum.jimdo.com/ Motherboard: Shuttle HOT-419 Maxtor HDD brochure: http://bitsavers.informatik.uni-stuttgart.de/pdf/maxtor/XT1000-XT3000_brochures.pdf Subscribe for more! http://cpumuseum.jimdo.com/
