I asked and you voted! I love talking about picking audition songs or anything to do with selecting musical theatre songs! One of my talents if i do say so myself. Picking an audition song sometimes can turn into a do or die situation, especially if its for your dream role, the pressure of performing in a room in front of a creative team and ON TOP OF THAT YOU ONLY GET ONE SHOT AT IT! Talk about scary! Personally I find that auditioning for either a rock musical or even high school auditions are actually more harder in terms of picking an audition song than for your community theatre company or even an actual professional gig. Here's why: you have SO MUCH MORE options you can take in terms of you can even sing a pop song and you don't usually have an accompanist for that. As for a professional gig you go in with your 16-32 bars, your monologue, maybe learn a dance selection and that's it! Cut Dry! The reason why I didn't want to title this as "How To Pick The Perfect Audition Song" is because if you really think about it there isn't a "Perfect" or "Right" song to sing. It's more blurred and grouped into appropriate and just plain don't sing it! Thinking about it now I wouldn't mind doing a Do's and Don'ts for audition videos sometime in the future. Probably I'll be biting off more than I can chew. As for now, hope you enjoy the video!
