Christmas with top singer Insooni The K-pop industry, just like any other music scenes, is a place where a sudden rise to fame is just as common as stars falling and fading away. Only few earn and maintain the title 'national singer' as one of the nation's most beloved singers, and Insooni is one of them. Despite the fact most female singers tend to lose their shine as they age, Insooni is welcomed on music programs, which are mostly watched by teenagers, and at events held for the middle-aged and the elderly. She has had a number of hit songs such as 'A Goose's Dream,' 'Night After Night,' 'Father' and 'Dear Friend,' which were very diverse in terms of genre. Insooni started singing, not out of passion for music, but to make ends meet. She debuted as a member of Hee Sisters in 1978 before declaring herself a solo artist soon after. In 1983, she reached super-stardom with 'Night After Night' causing a sensation nationwide. However, with the boom of university music festivals, people's attention shifted away from her. Without getting discouraged, she actively sought out an audience to promote her music and remain on the music scene. She made a successful comeback in 1993 and the sales of her 15th album 'My Turn' surpassed 70,000, which has been unprecedented for a middle-aged singer. Later, Insooni broadened the radius of her activities by appearing on films and musicals, while maintaining her focus on music. Without falling into complacency, she kept practicing her vocalization and experimented with new techniques and music genres. Her efforts to prevent herself from lagging behind have paid off, and her recent national concert tour, which commenced after the release of her 18th album, has been completely sold out. She turned the 10-year-long slump into an opportunity - a stepping stone to grow further as a genuine artist. Insooni has joined us on The INNERview to share her story about living in dire poverty in childhood, the discrimination and looks of disdain she faced for being a biracial child, the reason behind the foundation of an alternative school for biracial and multiracial children, and her plans to pursue her dreams and lead a meaningful life... And of course, she will blow your mind away with her powerful, moving performances, so don't miss out!
