I discuss in particular Shestov's critique of the philosophy and culture of his own time, his antisystematic empiricist approach to philosophy and to life, and his importance as an early interpreter who saw the connections between Kierkegaard, Dostoevsky, and Nietzsche. I also discuss several of the metaphors in this work that illuminate his thought, then read and discuss a variety of passages in which he talks about why Philosophy must pull itself out of the yoke of logic, bring passion into metaphysics, and embrace the possible.
