Gunjan Utreja: Music happened to you quite later and if I am not wrong you were learning bharatanatyam for the longest period of your life. Ten years?
Ramya Iyer: Ya ten years, all through school.
Gunjan Utreja: All through school.
Ramya Iyer: Ya.
Gunjan Utreja: Your family encouraged you to..
Ramya Iyer: Ya. I am basically Tamil and like every good Tamil kid I learnt a little bit of Karnatak and a lot of bharatanatyam.
Gunjan Utreja: Teach me some mudras of bharatanatyam. By the way I've also learned a couple of moves in bharatanatyam.
Ramya Iyer: What have you learnt, lets start with that.
Gunjan Utreja: That's what I am saying, I remember a few mudras. If you teach me I will be able to, this is.. what is it?
Ramya Iyer: Now I don't remember the names.
Gunjan Utreja: This is pataka.
Ramya Iyer: No, this is pataka, this is Tripataka...
Gunjan Utreja: This is pataka.
Ramya Iyer: See now this has to be aligned.
Gunjan Utreja:Ye, ab ye kar, ye to aasan hai.
Ramya Iyer: Ye to chamak chalo ka step hai.
Gunjan Utreja: Yeh step main kapade dhote dhote karta hu. Oh this is?
Ramya Iyer: This is a flower, a lotus
Gunjan Utreja: Of course I know that but is the mudra known as?
Ramya Iyer: Yeh sab.. no its too late, mein ab buddi hogayi hu.
Gunjan Utreja: Ek khubsoorat ladki pehli baar kehe rahi hai, mein buddi ho rahi hu. That you know is a very easy way out. You've learnt bharatanatyam for ten years, how could you forget it.
Ramya Iyer: Practice makes perfect, so if you don't practice you will forget it.
Gunjan Utreja: Practice makes a man perfect. Practice doesn't make a woman perfect. Or should I say women are perfect.
Ramya Iyer: Practice is everything. Its God.
Gunjan Utreja: So you've learnt a lot of classical music but what you sang was 'Kitna pyaara wada'.
Ramya Iyer: It was a hardcore remix.
Gunjan Utreja: So didn't you feel that oh you know I have learnt classical music I would love to do something which is a tougher song than what you had sung.
Ramya Iyer: I don't restrict myself by the way at all. Even while I was training in classical music, I had requested that she basically worked a lot on my voice culture so that I am able to sing everthing that comes my way and this was work that came my way while I was training. So I am not closed to any sort of music. I think each song has some beauty. So I am totally open to it.
Gunjan Utreja: But after being trained in classical music, you did not look down upon these remixes because when these remixes came out people were not happy with the way the videos were being made.
Ramya Iyer: Somebody is always cribbing ya. You just enjoy the music that you like and just get on with it.
Gunjan Utreja: So lets have a couple of lines from the same song. Don't tell me you forgot the song.
Ramya Iyer: I will sing you another song from that same album, which is a Punjabi remix.
2:38 chadh peengh de hulare naal gavan
ve ik vari aaja soneya, ve ik vari aaja haniyan
kinu dil diyan khol sunavan (2)
ve ik vari aaja soneya, ve ik vari aaja haniyan
Gunjan Utreja: Has anybody told you, that you don't sing, you perform.
Ramya Iyer: Aww so sweet of you.
Gunjan Utreja: You were performing actually.
Ramya Iyer: Ya I was lost. I usually have to close my eyes and so its like an effort..no no open my eyes, keep it open while singing.
Gunjan Utreja: That's where you met Teenu
Ramya Iyer: Yes that is how I met Teenu.
Gunjan Utreja: Then the association started and you came up with your first ever single with him.
Ramya Iyer: He moved to Bombay then I followed suit after few years and at that time he was looking to basically make some house music, so it was absolutely something I was game for and I love English pop and well this not English pop, it is dance music or what they call vocal house so that is how we started working on some tunes. He likes to compose so we co-compose some songs and I write the lyrics and we went in to the studio and recorded.
Gunjan Utreja: And which was?
Ramya Iyer: The first single we released was 'Ever Since' and we released that through Artist Aloud again.
Gunjan Utreja: And you also performed the same on Artist aloud music day.
Ramya Iyer: Absolutely I did. Yes it was well received.
Gunjan Utreja: It was very well received. I was shocked because you know I saw you for the first time and I am like wow she is a beautiful girl but would she be able to sing a song like that. I think everybody was mesmerized.
Ramya Iyer: Thank you.
