Follow me on Twitter for new video teardowns, updates and repairs: https://twitter.com/Lens_Myth This video shows how to disassemble the Canon GL1 camcorder to replace the eyepiece after it has been damaged. It is rather in depth, with 36 screws that need to be removed and put back in the PROPER places. Please print out my Screw Legend for this video from http://www.lensmyth.com/lensmyth/portfolio/canon-gl1-eyepiece-replacement-legend/ . The repair is straightforward with the only complication being removing the rear assembly to reach the final screw holding on the eyepiece. It is slightly tricky to un-clip it from the body but it is not difficult. You can go just a little farther to reach the fuses although I do not cover that, yet. I have a short clip available of how to remove the tape from this camcorder without any power by using AA batteries. * Take precautions to avoid static electricity passing through the circuit boards. (use gloves, stay grounded, use anti-static protection, etc) Tools required are only a small Phillips head screwdriver (size 0 or 00) and some nylon spudgers (non-metallic pry tools). Useful also would be a pair of needle nose pliers, and a very small flat head screwdriver. Visit http://Lensmyth.com for a complete list of repair videos, tools and used parts!
