I tilted my head back laughing. "I completely forgot about that!"
He laughed too,"Everyone has to trip and fall into a lake at some point in their life. I just can't believe it happened to me on our first date. And apparently it wasn't even memorable."
"I remember it all. Just not the part where you made an idiot of yourself."
"Hey!" he said, offended. I smirked. "That hurt."
I stuck out my lower lip. "You poor thing."
"Alright, let's not forget the time you tried to seduce me and my entire family was in the next room."
"That's not fair. And I was not trying to seduce you." He gave me a look. "I wasn't.
"Okay, sweetheart. Whatever you say." I got chills hearing him call me that again. It had been so long since I'd heard it. He must have been able to tell what I was thinking. "I'm sorry."
I shook my head and smiled. "Don't be."
He looked at me for a moment, then said, "I really am sorry." He reached out and grabbed my hand on top of the table.
"I know." I pulled my hand away and a look of sadness took over his face.
"I didn't mean to bring it up again," he told me, and I looked down at my food. "Hey we could always start throwing food at random people again."
I covered my face with my hands, "Oh gosh. Not my finest moment."
"It was pretty cute."
"It was our first dinner together. You know I hate awkward times like that."
He put his hands up, "I'm not judging."
"You are."
He shook his head. "You were sitting across from me in this exact restaurant, and you were throwing carrots at that lady, the one with hair you didn't like. That was the first time I realized I was falling in love with you."
I smiled hearing this and looked across the table at him, his brown eyes focused directly on mine. "It was a really ugly hairdo."
At the end of the night, Justin pulled into my driveway and walked me to my door.
"Thank you for coming out tonight, Sel. You don't know how badly I've been dying to see you," he told me.
"I know. I'm glad we got to catch up," I noticed him glance down at his feet. "Are you going back to school now?"
He nodded. "Taking the train back first thing tomorrow."
I was surprisingly disappointed to hear this. I had hoped he'd be sticking around for a little while, but that's the problem when you live in two separate worlds. At some point, you have to go back to reality. "Well, have a safe trip back."
"Look, Selena, I know I hurt you, and I know you can't forgive me. I just want you to know that I'm not giving up on you yet." Hearing him say these words, I knew he meant them. He continued on, "These past few months have been hell without you, and I know it's my fault. I didn't want to go back without you knowing I still care about you more than anything. I'm so sorry for," without thinking, I pressed my lips against his. I caught him off guard, but he finally starting kissing back. With my hands in his hair, the boy I loved put one of his on my lower back and the other on my cheek while kissing me softly under the light of a million stars.
