Balad - the National Democratic Alliance, is an Arab-Israeli party formed in 1995. Balad's goal is to make the State of Israel a binational state. Its politicians are not strangers to controversy, with the founder Azmi Bishara leaving Israel after being accused of passing secrets to the enemy (Hizbullah) during wartime. They also have the first female Arab MK in the Knesset Hanin Zuabi, who herself became a controversial figure having been on one of the Turkish flotilla's that attempted to break into Gaza. They currently hold 3 seats in the Knesset and are projected to win the same number in the upcoming elections on January 22nd.
