What is CVS?

CVS, Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome, is an unexplained disorder of children and adults, characterized by recurrent, prolonged attacks of severe nausea, vomiting, and prostration with no apparent cause. In some, there is severe abdominal pain with vomiting that occurs at frequent intervals of 1-4 hours or days. The episodes tend to be similar to each other in symptoms and duration with the sufferer returning to normal health between episodes. CVS can begin at any age and can persist for months, years, or decades. It has been difficult to diagnose because it is infrequently recognized and is often misdiagnosed as stomach flu or food poisoning. Visit cvsaonline.org for further information.
