10. Tom and Katie -- $21m
At number 10, we start the ball rolling with the recently split TomKat. Since their divorce is far from concluded, we can only estimate what the final settlement will be. However, it is insiders have divulged that it should cost Tom around $15 million plus their $35 million Beverly Hills mansion. It's come as a shock to some, to see the Rock of Ages and Mission Impossible star go through his 3rd divorce, but we reckon the writing was on the wall that he might be a bit loony way back when he first jumped Oprah's couch in 2005. Hope it ends well for little Suri.
9. Donald and Ivana Trump - $25m
At number 9, it's Donald Trump's divorce from first wife, Ivana in 1992 which cost him an estimated $25 million in cash, plus the $14 million family estate in Connecticut, a $5 million housing allowance and $350,000 annual maintenance. We wonder if Ivana finally had enough of his huge ego and even bigger hair? Donald, Ivana says "You're Fired!"
8. Paul McCartney and Heather Mills - $48m
McCartney reportedly shunned Mills' offer of a prenuptial agreement when the former Beatle wed Mills, a model/activist 30 years younger than him in 2002. But by 2006 they had split, among accusations that he had assaulted her. It's estimated that she received about $48 million -- big bucks! But then again the songwriting legend is worth over $700million.
7. Madonna and Guy Ritchie - $90m
At number 6, it's Madonna's divorce from 2nd hubby, Guy Ritchie, which is estimated to have cost the Material Girl around $90m. The couple have a son, Rocco, together, while Madonna has daughter Lourdes and has since adopted baby David.
6. Tiger Woods & Elin Nordegren - $100m
When Tiger divorced Swedish model Elin Nordegren in 2010 he was ordered to pay out an estimated $100 million. That's way more than he would have been required to pay under their prenup if he had not admitted to being unfaithful with several other women. In the aftermath of Tiger's confession companies AT&T, Gatorade and General Motors ended their sponsorship deals with him entirely while Gillette suspended using him in their commercial, obviously viewing his image as no longer "clean cut". An economic study in 2009 estimated the shareholder's loss caused by Woods' scandal to be between $5 and $12 billion. Tough news if you had shares in those companies!
5. Steven Spielberg and Amy Irving - $100m
Hollywood heavyweight Steven Spielberg's divorce from first wife Amy Irving is the tale of Hollywood legend. It cost the Oscar winning director a cool $100 million because the judge ruled their prenup as invalid. Hardly a surprise, because it had been written without lawyers, on a napkin! Steven, what were you thinking?
4. Neil Diamond & Marsha Murphey - $150m
Sweet Caroline singer Neil Diamond reportedly forked out $150 million when he divorced Marsha Murphey, in 1994 after 25 years of marriage. He wasn't too upset though as he was worth double that amount, and was quoted as saying "she's worth every penny"
3. Michael and Juanita Jordan - $168m
Ok we're into our top 3 most expensive celeb divorces now. At number 3 it's the legendary Chicago Bull, number 23, Michael Jordan. When they got married, Air Jordan had already signed an eight-year, $25 million contract with the Chicago Bulls. He also was earning another $30 million a year from Nike and other endorsement deals. Over the course of the marriage, Jordan earned more than $350 million. The final payout: $168 million dollars! When the divorce was finalised in 2006, this was the most expensive divorce in entertainment history at the time. Good thing he had already made his money playing basketball and didn't have to rely on his baseball career to afford that settlement
2. Mel and Robin Gibson - $480m
When "Mad Max" Mel Gibson divorced his former wife, Robyn in 2011, she was awarded a huge settlement of approximately $480 million, over half of his net worth. Maybe it's no wonder then that he has recently gone from making Oscar winninng epics like Braveheart to movies like 'The Beaver' about a talking furry puppet? It's because he needs the cash!
1.Roman & Irina Abramovich -- over 1 billion pounds!
Finally, at our unlucky number 1 spot it's billionaire oligarch Roman Abramovich's divorce from second wife, Irina in 2007. With such massive assets to try protect, the Chelsea owner offered settlement in Moscow, rather than conduct an open trial in London and attract even more media madness where the couple resided. Reports differ greatly on exactly how much Irina received but it is agreed that she got at least 5 luxury UK homes. The rest is cash and estimated to be anywhere between 1 and 2 billion pounds -- AT LEAST 12.8 billion Rands. No wonder he's looking so sad here. Don't cry for him too long, though. In 2011 Forbes estimated his net worth at 8.55 billion pounds.
