VW Jetta engine immobilizer problems

2002 VW Jetta that wasn't starting properly. I would crank, start, then die. Turned out the keys needed to be recoded. We charged the battery and did a lot of other things trying to go a cheaper route but that ended up not being the solution. Bummer.
