"Prelude to a Kiss" is a 1938 song composed by Duke Ellington and Irving Mills, with lyrics by Irving Gordon. Song is included on Billie Holiday's album "Velvet Mood." This album was released in 1956 on Clef Records. This is the only Billie Holiday album that is out of print. Billie's accompanied by Benny Carter (alto saxophone), Barney Kessel (guitar), Harry Edison (trumpet), Jimmy Rowles (piano), John Simmons (bass), and Larry Bunker (drums). Recorded in Los Angeles, August 23, 1955. (Clef Records) If you hear A song in blue Like a flower crying For the dew That was my heart serenading you My prelude to a kiss And if you hear a song that grows From my tender sentimental woes That was my heart trying to compose A prelude to a kiss Though it's just a simple melody With nothing fancy Nothing much You could turn it to a symphony A Shubert tune with a Gershwin touch Oh how my love song gently cries For the tenderness within your eyes My love's a prelude that never dies A prelude to a kiss Though it's just a simple melody With nothing fancy Nothing much You could turn it to a symphony A Shubert tune with a Gershwin touch Oh how my love song gently cries For the tenderness within your eyes My love is a prelude that never dies My prelude to a kiss
