After a hiatus of about half a year, I've bought me a new joystick (the old one was thoroughly worn out) and returned to Il-2 this week. And for once, I have an actual victory to show!! Yes, wonders never cease. ;-)
Patrolling over the front line in my trusty old P-38, I stumble across a blue 109 and decide to engage it. Although the 109 initially had a small but comfortable altitude advantage, its pilot decided to get into a turn fight with me anyway, which normally works for them ... but not this time! :D
Despite making several mistakes (I should have been dead at least once) and obviously being one of the worst shots on the planet, I actually end up winning the fight. :)
The best thing is, after the events you see in this video, I got attacked by another 190 as I was preparing to land. He damaged my right engine but I managed to shoot him down and kill another 109 before ditching at my airfield. After weeks and weeks of flying with nothing but defeats to show for it, that's 4 landed kills in a single sortie - which may be nothing to some of the hotshot pilots out there but to me is like Xmas and easter in one. :-D
