Remember the Maine

Another video in my collection of shipwreck tributes, this time it is the USS Maine. On Febuary 15th 1898, while assigned to protect US Interests in Havana Cuba during the Cuban War of Independence against Spain, the battleship USS Maine was destroyed by a massive explosion killing all but 74 of her 350 man crew. Through a combination of hysteria and yellow jurnalism the destruction of the Maine triggered the five month Spanish-American War. In 1912 the Maine was raised and resunk in deep water, and she and those who died aboard her were forgotten. Music: Sleeping Sun Artist: Nightwish Subject: USS Maine
